Hey everyone, I hope you’ve all had a great week.
Today isn’t Thursday, it’s Friday. I’ll get to that in a moment. Firstly, I was joined in my studio this week by CarolineMarie, to work on and record a cover of ‘More Than Words’ By Extreme. (See below for the video)
Had fun recording and editing this, however it did take more time than anticipated. Which brings me to the second half of this post.
Thursdays video uploads are now being moved to Fridays. This is so that I have an extra day to work on any last minute recordings or lengthy editing work. Todays video definitely would not have been ready for yesterdays usual upload.
Also, some of you may know (if you followed this site from it’s conception) I had a previous YouTube channel where I uploaded Guitar lessons and various other music related videos. I spent a little while earlier in the week looking through the analytic data of that channel and came to the conclusion Music videos (like the one below) just aren’t where the views are. People seem to want to be taught something rather than watch someone they don’t know play a piece they could hear anyone play at anytime. So, I’ve decided to re-master some of my previous channels Guitar Lessons and re-upload them to the Short Lane Studios channel. I’ll make them better quality, both audio and visually. And hopefully those videos will start to attract more people and help my audience grow.
I will however still be doing Music covers and original music. But once a month rather than weekly. This also takes a lot of stress out of the job.
I think that’s all I had on my mind.
Just for clarity,
Tuesdays are Demo Videos
Fridays are Lesson Videos with the occasional Music Video.
I’m still quite active on Twitter and Instagram, so pop on over to check those out, as well as the Studios Facebook Page.
I’ll stop boring you now.
I hope you all have a pleasant weekend.
Hi everyone. Todays video is some easy listening. My cover of ‘I will follow you into the dark’ by Death Cab For Cutie.
I quite like this song and have wanted to do a cover for a while. I think however, if I were to redo it in the future I would add some dynamic variations to it.
Hope you like it. Let me know if there are any guitarists out there who would like a video lesson for how to play this piece. It’s fairly easy to play though.
Hey everyone, hope you’re having a great week.
On Monday I went to see Iron Maiden at The Manchester Arena. I wanted to try doing a video that included my journey to and from the show. It’s a test video really. I wasn’t allowed to take any filming equipment, only my phone (which is old and has limited memory).
I would like to make some vlog type videos in the future, and I learnt a few things of what I should and shouldn’t do by making this video. I’m no Casey Neistat, but the quality of these kind of videos will get better.
The next kind of vlog type video will be made during a trip I’m on in October.
I don’t know if tickets are still on sale for the Iron Maiden tour, if they are I highly recommend you go see them.
Hey everyone, hope you’re all doing well.
Got another video for you. As it’s Thursday, it’s a music video. An acoustic cover of Castle In The Sky.
I like to play this piece slower and more freely than the original, I think a lot more emotion can come out of the piece that way. Let me know what you think.
This is Short Lane Studios very first music video. And we’re very happy with how it’s turned out. Reagal, a band based in the Cheshire area, allowed us to film a music video for their Single ‘Starry Eyes’, which is a piece taken from their next album due out in 2017. We had a lot of fun filming this and we learnt a lot from the experience.
TJ was helped by Adam Hunter (the other member of Short Lane) to film and direct the music video.
We hope you enjoy it. And we look forward to working with Reagal in the future.
