Free To Play with TJ

Free To Play are the three words discussed most in the gaming community. As I type free to play games are dominating the market place. Fortnite, Dota 2, Hearthstone, Warframe, Paladins are just a few games that are popular at this moment in time.

But are these games really free?

Fortnite has recently surpassed $1billion in revenue, achieved through in game purchases. Though the game is technically free to play, currently I haven’t spent a single penny playing Fortnite, there is still a lot to buy within the game.

Fortnite’s model is one that I really like. Epic, the games developer states that all purchases, skins, items and abilities purchased do not reflect the in game performance. It still gives each player an equal playing field regardless if you spend £100’s or £0.

Paladins is a little different, they allow you to buy passes, and abilities that do enhance players abilities in game, and for a cheapskate like me I find it tedious and tiresome that players that you battle against can pay for abilities or characters in order to gain an edge.

However, all that being said. I am enjoying games in the free to play market at this moment in time. I think that Fortnite, though the most popular game at the time of writing, will plateau soon regardless of their constant tinkering and changes.

TJ and I have played Fortnite and Paladins, we were discussing maybe giving Dota 2 a try in the near future too. You can catch our Fortnite and Paladins play throughs at the Everyday Reboot YouTube channel.
